Flooring South West Partners with Sustain Cotswolds to Improve Waste Recycling

A new floor can transform a room, but every flooring project also creates something customers never see once the work is done: waste. Packaging, offcuts, old flooring and underlay all have to go somewhere.

At Flooring South West, we believe what happens to that waste matters. That’s why we’ve partnered with Sustain Cotswolds, a Tetbury-based Community Interest Company offering local businesses a more sustainable approach to commercial waste collection.

Looking beyond the finished floor

When we complete a project, our priority is to leave you with a beautifully finished floor and a home that’s clean and ready to enjoy. Behind the scenes, though, every installation produces waste that needs to be collected and handled responsibly.

As the business has grown, we’ve been looking for sensible ways to reduce our environmental impact, and waste was an obvious place to start. Rather than simply paying someone to take it away, we wanted to work with an organisation that shares our commitment to operating responsibly and supporting the community around us.

James Padden, Managing Director of Flooring South West, said:

“Waste is an unavoidable part of flooring installation, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t think carefully about what happens to it afterwards. We wanted a solution that was responsible, practical and local, and Sustain Cotswolds ticked all of those boxes. It’s also great to know that by working with them we’re supporting an initiative that’s investing back into the local community.”

A local approach to waste collection

Sustain Cotswolds collects commercial waste from businesses across Tetbury and the surrounding Cotswolds. Its focus is on keeping collections local, cutting the carbon involved in waste collection, and making sure waste is handled responsibly. [Add specifics here, e.g. what is recycled, how, and what makes the collections lower-carbon.]

As a Community Interest Company, it also reinvests in local projects and initiatives, so the benefit stays in the area.

That matters to us. Flooring South West has strong roots in Tetbury, and we work with homeowners, businesses and property professionals throughout the Cotswolds. Choosing local suppliers wherever we can keeps more business in the community, and it means our waste doesn’t travel further than it needs to.

John Turton of Sustain Cotswolds said:

“We’re really pleased to be working with Flooring South West. What makes partnerships like this important is that they show sustainability can be practical. A local business still needs its waste collected reliably, but by thinking differently about how that’s done we can reduce the impact of those collections while also keeping more of the benefit within our local community.”

Flooring with the bigger picture in mind

When you choose a floor, you rightly focus on how it looks, how it feels, how it performs and whether it fits your budget. Those things will always come first.

But we think it’s also worth considering what happens before, during and after an installation, from the products we recommend to how materials are used on site and where the waste ends up. No single change makes a business sustainable, but lots of sensible ones add up, especially when local businesses make them together.

Working with Sustain Cotswolds is one of those changes, and we’re proud to have made it.
